To say that Natalie McCool has a distinct style is an understatement as true as her talent. This singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist brands her music ‘panorama pop’, which not only hints at the widescreen range of sounds employed and instruments played on her debut Shoot Shoot EP, but also tells us how her lyrics are a point of reference for issues that arise often in every home, relationship and experience.

‘Shoot Shoot’ the lead EP track; a cinematic rush of soaring guitars and strings, building tension throughout until crashing into your soul leaving your bones shaking in a rhythm as strong as the earth. ‘...shoot shoot you got me and I hit the ground, I lost’ indeed, Natalie bites the bullet with a song so full of people politics it’s the soundtrack to every love/hate relationship you have ever had. ‘...so I’ll bleed our history and turn it to dust’- the dust sparkles on dobro guitar strings and leaps off desert drums, to finally settle all around this hit in the making.

‘Prophecy’ is track number two; a journey through hypnotic rounds of percussion, dying delay and acerbic strings. An ode to William Blake, Natalie McCool channels his haunting voice throughout; ‘..I’ll take your sins away, I’m a man of prophecy’ her dynamic vocals soaring to crescendo only to plunge to a whisper seconds later. Inspired by Blake’s poem ‘The Little Girl Found’, ‘Prophecy’ draws feelings of self discovery, innocence and experience into a sinister yet alluring vision, inventing a shimmering landscape of light where nothing is as it seems.

'Little End' brings ‘Shoot Shoot EP’ to a close. Here the bold defiance of ‘Shoot Shoot’ and ‘Prophecy’ are replaced by momentary torpor as the sun sets on a broken love - ‘..you do and it’s done, it’s come to an end’. Idle guitar hooks call from a distance, when all around there is a sense of unsettlement mirrored in the lyrics - ‘..this torn, this broken bend’. The song concludes on a high note as Natalie cries ‘...this jagged end’; enveloped in a glowing sunset slowly fading to dusk.
